SYNOPSIS

The bill proposes to merge two UTs Dadar and Nagar Haweli and Daman and Diu into one unit to ensure better management, cost reduction and uniformity in policies.

The bill proposes to merge two Union Territory Dadra and Nagar Haveli with Daman and Diu

The new UT will be named as Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

Assets and Liabilities of both the UTs will be merged and will belong to new UT

The new UT will be allocated two seats in Lok Sabha, one seat each

There will be no change in SC/STs reservation

The two Union Territories share a similar history, culture, language and administrative setup

Parallel departments only resulted in inefficiency, duplicity, wasted manpower and wastage of expenditure.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli had only one district, while the Daman and Diu had two

The distance between the two UT islands is just 35 km but both had different budget
