SYNOPSIS

The Bill proposed the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar and the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, New Delhi, as a National Forensic Sciences University, as national importance. The institute will grant degrees, diploma as nationalized recognised university and will be an independent body to take decisions for course content, methods and practices in teaching.

There will be a board of 7 members which include vice-chancellor, financial advisor and 5 members from forensic and criminology field)

They will be responsible for all the administrative work which includes policymaking, course to study at university etc.

Currently, there are only a couple of institutions in the country which provide the environment and infrastructure specialization for imparting education in forensic science.

Also, there is a need to develop perspectives, undertake research and impart knowledge in the domain of forensic science, criminology, behavioral science at a national level

Forensic sciences, criminology and applied behavioral sciences play a critical role in criminal investigations and prevention of crimes.

An infusion of academic knowledge, professional skills and the requisite orientation at the national level is required to attract talent into this sector

The proposed National Forensic Sciences University will promote studies and research in forensic science in conjunction with applied behavioral science studies, law, criminology and other allied areas for strengthening the criminal justice system in the country.

The university would set up centers of excellence in the area of forensic sciences and provide modern facilities in these areas.

It will help in strengthening the criminal justice system in the country.
